The Toa Samoa Rugby league team that arrived in the Country yesterday kicked off its celebration on Thursday with a service held at the Catholic Cathedral in Apia.
The service was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and members of the public. The service was led by the Chairman of the Council of Churches, Reverend Aisoli Iuli.
During the sermon, the former President of the Methodist Church told the story of Moses and how the Israelites went to war with sticks against an army with swords and weapons.
To the Toa team, Reverend Iuli said they fought the war on the field while Samoa, from leaders to the denominations, elders to the young people were united in prayer.
However there was a lapse in the Country’s support, the day, when Team Toa Samoa won against England, everyone forgot it was Sunday, the holy day hence they lost during the championship game against Australia, had they won, Samoa would neglect the fact that it was a Sunday and they would be celebrating the streets of Apia.
Nonetheless, he said the country’s support was evident with flags draped on dogs, horses, wheelbarrows, cars, boats, and homes.
When we win, thank God in prayers, when we lose give thanks as everything happens for a reason.
The Police Royal also sang hymns at the service.
A parade was held in front of the government building as part of the Toa o Samoa celebration, where hundreds participated.
