“Tsunami Advisory” issued for Samoa and American Samoa

Samoa and American Samoa are now under “Tsunami Advisory”.

The notice was posted by the Samoa Meteorology Office, indicating that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 occurred in the Fiji islands region.

“The depth is 38 kilometers and the distance is 560.34 kilometers South West of Apia.

“The public is hereby advised that although there is a not tsunami from this earthquake please take extra precaution when you are attending activities near the coastal area.”

For the neighboring island of American Samoa, their National Weather Station stated an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 occurred in Tonga Islands Region.

“Some areas may have experienced strong shaking; monitoring continues to evaluate tsunami threat.”
