Two Senior Human Rights Protection Party have resigned from their political party and are going as Independent members.
They are Members of Parliament of Faleata #4, Ale Vena and Siumu MP, Tuu’u Anasi’i Leota.
The confirmation was made during a press conference with the local media. Tuu’u said their village endorsement of his candidacy for office was not made based on the political party he served.
“There were internal issues that were addressed to the leader of the HRPP but the advice was not considered,” said Tuu’u.
While Ale told the media, that his constituency supports him by moving away from the HRPP.
The move by the Senior MP follows a decision by the political party to have the suspended Lepa MP and HRPP leader remain at his current position this is despite being suspended with the party Secretary Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi.
The two MP’s were suspended by Parliament for two years, for violation of Parliament’s standing orders after they were convicted of contempt of court.
At the moment HRPP 22 MP’s but with Tuilaepa and Leala on suspension and two more resignations their numbers in Parliament has reduced down to 19.
