Two new COVID-19 related deaths confirmed, death toll 12

Two new COVID-19 related deaths within four days of the reporting period, taking the death toll to 12. 

An 86 year old man and an 80-year-old female, says the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry also confirmed 1,154 new community cases, 14 cases in managed isolation and three critical cases in ICU at the Moto’otua Hospital within the period commencing from 2:00pm 12th April to 2:00pm 16th April 2022.

The statement says the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases since community transmission was detected on March 17, 2022, stands at 5,947.

“The public is again urged to get vaccinated as vaccination remains the best defence against the COVID-19 pandemic. Keeping our families and loved ones safe is everyone’s responsibility. 

“Please stay home and isolate if you are feeling unwell and practice safe personal hygiene at all times.  All are required to wear face masks and keep to the two-meter social distancing in public places.”   

“Sadly, the Ministry of Health confirmed two new COVID-19 related deaths within this reporting period, taking the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to twelve (12).

“The deceased was an 80-year-old female and an 86 year old male. Out of respect for the families and relatives, we will not be making any further comments.” 

According to the Ministry of Health, the total of new COVID-19 related deaths in the past 96 hours was confirmed during reporting period between April 13 at 2pm – April 14 at 2pm. Furthermore, the Ministry says the death count is subject to change following full verification of all reported COVID-19 deaths.

The rapid antigen tests conducted amounted to 43,442, this is subject to change to data cleaning and when data becomes available.
