Two week adjournment in case between HRPP leaders and Speaker

Supreme Court Justice Leiataualesa Daryl Clarke has granted a two weeks adjournment in a civil case against the Speaker of the House, Li’o Papali’i Ta’eu Masipa’u, filed by Human Rights Protection Party leader and secretary, Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi and Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi over their suspension from Parliament for the remaining of the current term. 

Dr. Rodney Harrison, the suspended MP’s legal counsel asked for additional time citing the need to amend their statement of claim and also to locate a cultural expert witness.

The same application was posed by the Speaker’s lawyer, Taulapapa Brenda Heather-Latu also sought for another two weeks’ adjournment, which was granted by the court.

This matter is now scheduled on 27 February, 2023.

Parliament suspended Tuileapa and Leala last year in October, in a secret ballot, in line with the recommendations of the Privileges and Ethics Committee.
