The Samoa Port Authority has taken over the operations of the wharves at Mulifanua, Salelologa, Satitoa Aleipata, and Asau which was previously overseen by the Samoa Shipping Corporation since 2014.
This was confirmed by the Minister of SPA, Olo Fiti Vaai in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.
He said this initiative was effective on 1 October 2022. The Minister then referred queries to the Chief Executive Officer of SPA, Sooalo Kuresa Sooalo for the details.
The CEO told Savali that in terms of staff members, the security guards and maintenance crew will be transferred to SPA, but the rest of the staff remains under the SSC.
Sooalo further stated they have plans for Satitoa and hopes to collaborate with American Samoa in building a wharf on Tutuila island that is closer to Aleipata to service that route on the far west of Upolu.
