A 23-year-old woman has been criminally charged following the death of a 51-year-old man. The incident occurred in Vaitele early this morning, near the Tuanaimato fire station.
Police Commissioner Auapa’au Logoitino Filipo confirmed this in response to questions from Radio Polynesia.
“I can confirm a traffic accident involving a 23-year-old woman who hit a pedestrian early this morning. The woman turned herself into the Police and has since been charged,” said Auapa’au.
“She is facing one count of negligence driving, causing death. She is out on bail to appear for criminal mention on 14 August, 2023.”
The 51-year-old man who is from Falelauniu died as a result of the traffic accident. The Commissioner declined to further comment on the case details, noting that police investigations are ongoing.
