Last week Friday, the World Bank’s Regional Vice-President for East Asia Pacific, Manuela V. Ferro visited the Samoa National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) – overseen by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Samoa, which was established under the World Bank’s Pacific Resilience Project (PREP).
The total cost of this NEOC facility is $ 6.4 million Tala (USD $2.4).
It was launched and operational in October 2020, one of the significant milestones for the PREP project.
The Centre’s operations will continue to protect Samoan families, communities and businesses as climate change and disasters arise. Minister Toeolesulusulu Cedric Salesa Pose Schuster delivered the keynote address at the welcoming ceremony.
“It is my honour to receive you Ms Manuella V. Ferro, and your team to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC). Welcome and Talofa lava.”
“Again, we are very fortunate for this building as it is not just a building it symbolizes hope and trust for our people however, there still more that needs to be done,” he added.
