Youngest Covid patient, recovering but still in critical condition

Samoa’s youngest COVID patient, a one-year-old baby girl is recovering at the Intensive Care Unit of the COVID Ward.

This was confirmed by the Head of the Pediatric, Papalii Dr Tito Kamu in response to questions from Radio Polynesia this morning.

The baby girl remains in an induced coma at the Intensive Care Unit suffering from severe pneumonia as a result of COVID-19.

“The baby is improving much better,” said Papalii. However, she remains in critical condition.

He explained in an earlier interview that pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs, causing cough, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. A variety of organisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi, can cause pneumonia.
